In FMD first question arise in our mind is that what is FMD and how is it helpful 

to our business and business related growth.

So latest come to the point FMD is The European Falsified Medicines Directive [2011/62/EU] (commonly known as FMD) has been brought in to address the 

issue of falsified medicines entering the legitimate medicines supply chain across Europe. Under the Directive, all new packs of prescription medicines placed from February 2019 onward will have to bear two safety features: a unique identifier (UI) in the form of a 2D data matrix (barcode) and an anti-tampering device (ATD).Wholesalers & Retailers have to adhere to the regulation by scanning the 2D barcodes, verify and decommission from their 

respective national databases depending on the nature of transaction

FMD Protect from the fake medicines and its effect the entire supply chain.

The process of FMD :

Manufacturers
Manufacturer apply a unique code identifier (UI) code to their pack  
labeling add the anti-tampering device and upload the (UI) code to the              
EMVS.

Pre-wholesaler
Manufacturers store medicines in a pre-wholesalers, which then sells 

them on to the wholesaler.

Wholesaler

Wholesalers only scan and verify the medicines products. This code does not come directly from a manufacturer or pre-wholesaler it is a risk-based verification this means that a high percentage of medicines will not need to be verified or decommissioned by wholesalers.so that time they do decommission medicines on the behalf of other suppliers, such as dentists and care homes.

Community Pharmacy

When medicine received by pharmacy staff they check the anti-tampering device (ATD) is intact. The UI code is scanned and verified the medicine be decommissioned. It mean's its status in NMVS is changed from active to inactive-dispensed. Once UI code is verified it does not allow the same UI code verified more than once the medicine is checked at the time to supplying it to the patient.

Hospital Pharmacy

The product follows the same process as in community pharmacy, but can be decommissioned at any time after verification National Medicines verification system (NMVS) when once the medicine is scanned,the NMVS will send back the status of the medicine product as either active or inactive.This status also given when the medicine product is stolen withdrawn or dispensed also it alerts to authorities medicines and healthcare products regulatory agency if a potential FMD is identified.

Unique Identifier (UI) Barcode made up of four key elements, pack size, serialization number, expiry date and batch number The FMD barcode is a matrix data similar to the QR code Safety FeaturesUnder the FMD, All the prescription medicine put on the market from February 2019 with to safety featured Unique identifier (UI) & anti-tampering device (ATD).
